// Hot Dog Man - Short Film

Hot Dog Man is a hilarious and poignant home movie by Joyce Ventimiglia and Jim Haverkamp, about an absurd American icon, a giant self-devouring hot dog statue in downtown Durham, North Carolina. The rooftop film short is based totally around this Hot Dog Man and how the community feels about it. As you watch you can hear people who absolutely hate it and would like for it to burn and some can’t get enough of it. One person's position is that the wiener is quite disconcerting “seeing its bright red wiener standing there and the kind of sick self smothering.” It's a short but turns out to be quite funny as you hear the residents of this community social commentary on the “Hot Dog Man.”

This movie is a wonderful, though, sad drama of a couple that has found it very difficult to communicate. The choice they make to fix that will change their lives forever. You can feel the tension immediately in the short period that you’re watching it and really brings you into a place that I wish not to be in anytime soon. The director does not let you hear everything that is entering their minds but lets you feel through the screen in their actions and leaves it up to you the viewer to make your own conclusion about their choice.
